Brian takes home 2 Upper Midwest Regional Emmy Award’s

16 films, 6 new friends and 2 Upper Midwest Regional Emmy Awards... What a week

I don't even know what to say.. so much has happened this year that has left me in constant states of ups and downs and questioning who I am, what I do, why and where I fit in. But this past week in particular has taught me that the things I want in my life are in fact coming true and I do belong.

This week I attended the 11th Annual Cine Latino Film Festival for the first time. I knew no one at the beginning, I just went because I was advised by my mentor Craig equipped with nothing but a goal to connect with filmmakers from LATAM and I soon became close friends with all the attending filmmakers sharing stories, critiques and a little bit of the city I'm from (all in Spanish ). It was amazing, exhausting and filled me with so much hope that I can achieve this goal that often feels like I'm walking one step at a time in the dark, alone.

Aside from the festival and all the amazing people I got to share a love for film with, I was surprised with another accomplishment. On Saturday night following another amazing day of films and networking I found out that I won my first Upper Midwest Regional Emmy as a Cinematographer for this piece - https://youtu.be/R7Sxl7GmFVg?si=IyBXCDwQWLWm2Cds

And to top things off I also learned that the show I helped create as the Lead Cinematographer, alongside a small but incredible team like Mrs. Fort, Josh Cobb, Shari Hutar-Brochhausen, Francisco Sanchez and Kimberly Steward on Here's The Truth with Georgia Fort had also won an Emmy

What a week! Often in this line of work as an artist we're planning and attempting projects that often go unseen or unheard and that hurts but moreso it motivates. Artists are some of the most resilient people that I know and have ever had the honor of working with. We can move boulders with teams that shouldn't be able to lift a rock, we can open minds and adjust the way they see people and situations and we can bring beauty to mundane. Today I feel blessed to have chosen this path, wherever it leads me and most importantly I'm extremely happy for all my friends that I've met in this business but especially Georgia.

You are a pioneer and inspiration of what it means to be a fucking BOSS regardless of your gender, appearance or anything else and for that I will always admire and respect you. For you, I am the happiest. You deserve the recognition these two Emmys have brought you for all the sacrifices and tears you've shed time and time again to earn the respect you deserve. After today, no one can ever deny what you always knew of yourself

Although the futures path is often filled with a lot of unknown and uncertainty, this week especially has given me a little more encouragement that I am in fact on the right path and there just might be a place for me somewhere in this world.. LATAM here I come! Seguimos adelante!
